Tankeshwor Agro Passion Pvt. Ltd.

Introduction:

Tankeshwor Agro Passion Pvt. Ltd. (TAP) was established in 2021. It is a women-led private company that aims to promote sustainable and innovative agriculture practices in the mountain landscape through applied research, demonstration, and training to the farmers in Nepal. We envision a climate-friendly and sustainable integrated farming model in the mountain landscape that ultimately benefits the smallholder farmers, society, and the environment as a whole.

Initiatives:
Research and Production:Currently, TAPworks in a total of over a hectare of agricultural land in three locations in a mountain landscape in the Dhadhing District of Central Nepal. The company has initiated three different practices in the three different locations as a trial.

Project I: This was the land completely degraded due to excavation of soil by brick factory. The upper layer of the soil was removed upto the depth of over 3 meter from the surface,with no any essential nutrientsremaining that are required for plants growth. Before the excavation of soil by the brick factory, this land was a fertile paddy field with beautiful terraces. Later, the land was rented by a brick factory to use the soil for the brick production. After the contract is over, land was left completely degraded and the terraces destroyed.

As of now, the land has beenlevelled into few terraces, Napier grass has been planted in the lower edge to stabilize the slope and control soil erosion. Also, soil has been prepared with addition of compost fertilizer to plant lemon saplings. However, it is planned to restore soil quality by addition of compost and animal manure and intercropping to test how fast the soil quality can be restored.

Project II: This is a high gradient slop land, left without farming practice for long time, with small terraces suitable for fruits/tree plantation. An access corridor of about 100 has been prepared through the property for easy transport of required stuff. At the moment, the land is being prepared for horticulture.

Project III: This is comparatively good condition land, suitable for growing paddy, wheat and vegetables. But, the land was left fallow for some time. Therefore, Napier grass, an important perennial tropical forage crop, has been grown for commercial purpose.

Education and Training:
Tankeshwor Agro Passion (TAP) is also engaged in providing training to farmers in different locations of Dhading District. TAP provides saplings of grasses and other crops to the farmers as per need and also trains the farmers in planting and harvesting the crops.

Future plan:
TAP is preparing a comprehensive farming strategy in the land the company owns along with the small scale field testing and research. However, we are open to collaborate any national and international partners interested in the applied research in sustainable agriculture in the mountain landscape.
